PTO Information

WHO IS A MEMBER OF PTO?

Every school parent is a member as is each teacher and the principal.  There is no membership fee.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF PTO?

The purpose of the Southwood PTO is to bring into closer relationship the home, the school, and the child and thereby create a spirit of cooperation that will enhance the learning experience of the student.

WHAT DOES PTO DO?

The PTO conducts meetings throughout the year to report the status of PTO projects and to provide students with an opportunity to perform for parents and relatives. PTO also plans and conducts fundraising activities.  The PTO officers then determine how to best utilize funds.  All funds are spent in a manner that will directly benefit the students.  The PTO also recruits parent volunteers to assist throughout the school program.

WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE MEETINGS HELD?

All meetings are held in the gym/cafeteria of Southwood Elementary (with the exception of the December meeting), start at 7:00 p.m. and last approximately one hour or less.  Everyone is welcome to attend any and all meetings.  Performances are given after a brief business meeting.

WHEN ARE OFFICERS ELECTED?

The PTO offices are President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.  The officers function as an executive committee.  Elections are held in May.  Nominations are solicited from all school parents.

LEADERSHIP?

PTO is guided by the Principal and a group of parents who function as the Executive Committee. The parents are volunteers. To volunteer, contact the principal at 563-8050.
